ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every WFVFD member that responded to the calls wish to send
their thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by the incidents.

27 House Alerted For The Local Alarm 25-1

5 Miller Road


On Friday April 30th at 1415 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the local alarm 25-1 a residential automatic alarm at 5 Miller Road. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 3 responded. Crew used a thermal imaging camera to check the residence and determined nothing out of the ordinary. Units on the scene Engine 25-13 (Ridgeley Fire), Engine 27-11, (Wiley Ford Fire), Quint Rescue 8 (Bowling Green Fire), Engine 34 (Short Gap Fire). All units were returned into service after 25 minutes on scene.

Motor Vehicle In 27's First Due

Route 28 At Clear View Avenue


On Thursday April 29th at 2335 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Motor Vehicle accident at Route 28 and Clear View Avenue. Rescue 27 with a crew of 4 and Engine 27-11 also with a crew of 4 responded. Ridgeley Ambulance 25-70 was also alerted on the call. Arriving units found a single vehicle over the embankment. Ridgeley ambulance 25-70 transported one patient.

Frankfort Middle School


On Monday April 26th at 0425 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the automatic alarm in Short Gap (Company 34) first due at Frankfort Middle School. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 6 responded. while responding the alarm was cancelled and all units returned in service.

On Sunday April 25th at 2000 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Station Transfer to the Pattersons Creek Fire station Company 35.
Station 27 Alerted For A Fully Involved Structure

Fully Involved Commercial Structure Fire


On Sunday April 25th at 0445 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Assist to Short Gap Fire Company 34 for the fully involved commercial structure fire at the Auction Barn on Route 28. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 7 and Rescue 27 with a crew of 2 both responded . Upon arriving Engine 27-11 hit the hydrant and supplied Ft Ashby Engine 37-11 and Rescue 27 blocked traffic on Route 28 while the engine crew assisted with overhaul. On scene Engine 34, Rescue Engine 34 (Short Gap Fire), Engine 37-11 (Ft Ashby Fire), Engine 25-11, Engine 25-13 (Ridgeley Fire), Engine 27-11, Rescue 27 (Wiley Ford Fire), Engine Tanker 35 (PAttersons Creek Fire), Engine 9-2, Squad 9 (Cresaptown Fire), Quint 8 (Bowling Green Fire).

Fully Involved Shed Fire


On Thursday April 15th the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the mutual aid Assist on box 7-3 to Allegeny County MD for the fully involved shed fire at 11609 Biermen Drive. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 5 and Rescue 27 with a crew of 2 both responded . Upon arriving crews found a shed fully involved. Wiley Ford crews assisted in the overhaul operations before being returned to service. Other units responding on this call Engine 7-1, Tanker 4, Tanker 13, Engine Tanker 35. All units returned to service in 35 Minutes.

Fuel Tanks on Fire


On Monday April 7th the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the mutual aid Assist for the fuel tanks on fire in Allegheny County Maryland. Engine 27-11 responded. Upon arriving crews found a fuel tank that was being removed from the ground by a contractor when they burst into flames. Other units responding on this call Engine 7-1, Tanker 13, Tanker 35. All units returned to service in 45 Minutes.

Route 28 at Route 28 Auto Sales


On Monday April 5th at 1630 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the multiple vehicle MVA on Route 28 at Route 28 Auto Sales. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 3, Rescue 27 with a crew of 3 all responded. Also alerted on the call were Ambulance 25-70, Ambulance 25-71 (Ridgeley Fire). Company 25 had 1 transport from the scene.

Alarm Bells at Hunter Douglas


On Monday April 5th at 1525 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the automatic fire alarm at Hunter Douglas in Allegheny County Maryland. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 4, Rescue 27 with a crew of 3 all responded. Upon arriving crews found a sprinkler head that had been activated. All units returned to service.

Box 27-1 Residential Structure 27's First Due

Basement Fire on City View Avenue


On Friday April 2nd at 0430 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Box 27-1 a residential structure Fire on City View Avenue in Wiley Ford. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 5, Rescue 27 with a crew of 4 all responded. Upon arriving crews found towels that had been wrapped around a hot water tank as well as on the floor burning. Interior used the water can to extinguish the fire and ventilated the residence. Other Companies held on station per command were; Company 25 (Ridgeley Fire), Company 34 (Short Gap Fire), Company 35 (Patterson Creek Fire), Company 7 (District 16 Fire). Crews remained on the scene for 35 minutes before returning to service.

Chimney Fire on Edmund Street


On Monday March 15th at 1645 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Box 27-1 a flue Fire on Edmund Street in Wiley Ford. Engine 27-11, Engine 27-12, Rescue 27all responded. Chief 27 (Ashenfelter) had the command. Crews on the scene were; Engine 27-11, Engine 27-12, Rescue 27, Engine 25-13, Squad 7, Engine 34, Tanker 7. Tanker 35 transferred to station 27.

Fully Involved Residential Structure Short Gap


On Monday March 15th shortly after midnight the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for box area 34-3 in Short Gap for a Fully Involved Residential Structure Fire on Route 28 near the Mountaineer Mart. Engine 27-11 responded with 6 volunteers and Engine 27-12 responded with 3 volunteers. Command requested Engine 27-11 Hit the hydrant at the Mountaineer Mart. Crews assisted with the Fire attack and overhoaul operations. Units on the scene were; Engine. 34, Rescue Engine 34, Ambulance 34 (Short Gap Fire), Engine 37-11, Squad 37 (Ft Ashby Fire), Engine 27-11, Engine 27-12 (Wiley Ford Fire), Engine 25-13 (Ridgeley Fire), Tanker 35 (Pattersons Creek Fire), Tanker 39 (Fountain Fire).

Busy Day At The 27 House

Multiple Calls Keep Wiley Ford Volunteers Busy


Sunday March 7th proved to be a busy day for the Wiley Ford volunteers handling 2 fires and 1 vehicle accident in an approximate 8 hour span. The first call of the day was a reported house fire on Scenic Lane in Wiley Ford's first due. Engine 27-11 responded. Upon arrival of Engine 27-11 from Wiley Ford it was determined the fire was out. Engine 25-13 also resonded on this call the crews from 25 were placed in service by command just prior to their arrival on scene.

The 27 house was also toned out for a flue fire at 16 Buddy Lane in Carpendale. Engine 27-11 and Rescue 27 responded. Upon arrival crews found a flue fire contained to the flue. Wiley Ford crews went to work assisting Ridgley Volunteers in extinguishing the fire along with the assistance Short Gap Fire, and Bowling Green Fire. Units on the scene were Ridgeley (Engine 25-13, Ambulance 25-70), Wiley Ford (Engine 27-11, Rescue 27), Short Gap (Engine 34, Engine-Rescue 34), and Bowling Green (Quint-Rescue 8) Crews were on scene approximately an hour before returning.

As crews were clearing the previoua scene the alarm was sounded for a vehicle accident on Route 28 at Scenic Lane. Engine 27-11 and Ambulance 25-70 responded to the call. The accident was a minor accident with the ambulance obtaining 1 signed refusal of care.
